Polenta dinner, Oktoberfest, Taco Truck bike tour

Polenta lovers should check Chef Canales’ menu at Oliveto.  Four different types of polenta are slow cooked, formed into a round cake and served family style on a wooden board.  A complete menu of antipasti, accompaniments and entrees are designed to celebrate the locally grown corn porridge.  Reservations for Friday are almost gone, but there’s still room for tonight’s dinner.

There’s another family-friendly Oktoberfest this weekend: hay rides and games for the little kids and “suds and sausages” for the big kids at the Carriage House at Covington Gate.

Paladar Temescal, the monthly Supper Club in Oakland, is getting together this weekend for a four course dinner, complete with cocktails and wine pairings.  All proceeds will be donated to the Afghan Women’s Survival Fund.

There’s another bike tour this weekend, this time in the Fruitvale.  Work your way through the menus of 4 taco trucks, then finish the meal with Nieves ice cream.  Anyone want to let me borrow a bike?

This is the menu for Montclair Bistro’s 41st wine dinner: Pink pepper crusted Pacific halibut with Jasmine rice cake/champagne creme, Carmalized pumpkin bisque/truffle scented, Seared loin of western veal/local chanterelles and Dauphine potatoes, Blackberry almond crepes/pistachio mousse.  Sounds decadent, right?  All courses will be paired with wine from their cellar.
