I first read about how Lunch Beat started in Sweden as a lunchtime dance party in News Fix, and was happy to learn that local dancer Venus French organized the first Oakland event last month. It gives people an opportunity to get together and let loose in the middle of the day instead of eating at your desk. With plans to expand to other parts of the Bay Area and feature different DJs and caterers, it’s a monthly Oakland event for now. Cafe 15 will provide sandwiches (Eggplant with mozzarella, tomatoes and pesto or Fried Chicken with lemon mayo) with a side salad and there will also be plenty of water while you dance. As for the music, DJ Chrysalis will be “mixing a unique blend of funky breaks, glitch hop, dub, gypsy soul, progressive house, and ecstatic idm.” The first rule is: If it’s your first lunch at Lunch Beat, you have to dance.

I’ve never been to the Hayward Zucchini Festival, but it sounds like fun. There will be zucchini pasta, quiche, bread, sandwiches, pizza, cakes, ice cream and more at the 30th annual event. On top of all the food, you can also expect live music, face painting, rides, arts & crafts.
