Nosy – Textbook Comfort

Next Door just opened last week in the former Addie’s Pizza Pie location and Chef Sharon Lorraine Anderson (The Purple Plum) is serving international comfort food with a twist. When I stopped by the other day, it took me awhile to order because I wasn’t super hungry and the prices seemed high, but I finally decided on the Braised Short Ribs (with roasted carrots, sweet onions, baby turnips and Anson Mills creamy grits, $18).   That turned out to be a good decision because the meat was fork tender and I wanted to bathe in the savory sauce.  The carrots added sweetness and crunch, while the acid in the tomatoes made the dish pop.  This dish was textbook comfort:  creamy, hearty and substantial.  And the leftovers reheated beautifully the next day.  Brunch will be added this weekend for Mother’s Day, with dishes like Chicken & Waffles ($12) and Quiche Lorraine ($10).
