I’ve tried Mamacitas Cafe’s cardamom donuts several times in the last few months (all in the name of research) and they’re always freakin delicious. And I have extra love for the owners because they’re cool people and I support their mission of employing and empowering young women in Oakland.
Well, after popping-up at events around town for over a year, Mamacitas Cafe just opened a brick and mortar location. The owners invited me over, so I stopped by one afternoon last week.
Mamacitas Cafe is now located inside art gallery/retail shop Qulture Collective, which is “a safe space for Queers & Allies.” The art was beautiful and powerful, so I recommend you take the time to walk around and experience everything on display.
Ok, let’s get back to the food…
Along with the delicious donuts, they also serve Red Bay Coffee and porridge.
I’m not much of a coffee connoisseur, but I hear Red Bay is really good. Have you tried it?
Since I’ve already had their donuts several times (did I mention they’re freakin delicious?), I decided to try something new.
I have a serious sweet tooth (it’s one of my weaknesses), but I ordered the “Cari” because I was in a savory mood that day.
And I’m glad I did!
The flavors were perfectly balanced and the silky smooth polenta was oh-so-comforting. Somehow, it was hearty (but not too filling) and delicious (but not too decadent). Dang, I really wish I had a bowl RIGHT NOW.
Anyway, you should stop by and let me know what you think!
