We used to only be able to get Phat Matt’s brisket, ribs and pulled pork at the Grand Lake Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, and at Pleasanton’s Stoneridge Mall on Fridays, but that’s about to change.  They’re opening a new restaurant, so we’ll have access to his menu 6 days a week!  The grand opening is set for 11/20, but they may open as early as next Friday.

Congratulations are in order for the folks behind Actual Cafe, who just got their beer and wine permit approved.  And they’re having a painting party on Sunday at noon to celebrate.  In exchange for a little manual labor, they’ll supply the pizza.  Opening day is still a few weeks out, but hopefully construction will be finished soon.  It looks like it will be a nice neighborhood spot and the menu will include coffee, pastries, sandwiches, salads and empanadas (I have to admit – I’m intrigued by these empanadas…).

And now some info from the Chronicle:
Chef George Morrone, of Sutro’s at the Cliff House, will be the new Executive Chef of K2 Restaurant Group (the people behind Fonda, Jimmy Beans, Lalime’s, Sea Salt and T-Rex).  He will work with each restaurant’s chef to “punch up” the menus, with Lalime’s being numero uno on the list.

Husband and wife Christopher and Veronica Laramie met at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and have been romping through respected American kitchens ever since.  After stints in Miami (Blue Door), Chicago (Charlie Trotter’s) and Denver (Q’s), they have decided to move to Berkeley and open their first restaurant, eVe: “It will be a small 30 seat, high-end restaurant offering classically modern, avant garde prix fixe menus.”

Sasa will open in January under Chef Kelly Degala, formerly of Va di Vi and Pres a Vi.  The Japanese restaurant will serve sushi, sashimi and “izakaya-style cruisine – the Japanese equivalent of Spanish tapas.”
