Ok, a few people have asked why The Serenader closed last summer so I’ll summarize briefly: new owners, complaining neighbors and then there was the genius who decided to sell coke to some undercover cops. If you’re interested, read more in this Tribune article. Anyway, the new owners opened the Heart and Dagger Saloon in the old Serenader space a couple weeks ago. They let me take a peek a few days early, but I completely forgot to take pictures. I’m so sorry! I can tell you there’s a black and white checked floor, beer garden, pin ball machines and pool table. They serve $3 drafts and $3.50 well drinks during happy hour (Mon – Fri, 4 – 7pm).

According to tablehopper, Dopo (also owned by Jon Smulewitz) is hosting Gunther Di Giovanna, an organic wine producer from Sicily. The menu for the family-style dinner could change at the last minute, but this is the current plan: “antipasti misti (house-cured smoked swardfish, artichoke conserva, octupus al mattone) paired with 2008 “Gerbino” rosato di nerello mascalese, IGT; roasted leg of lamb, rib chops, and lamb sausage, plus chicory and potato salad paired with 2005 G & K nero d’avola, IGT; and to finish, house-made gelato with brioche.”

Sun, 3/7, 5pm or 8pm
