Thirsty – Loose a Pub, Gain a Bistro

beckett's yelpIn the next couple of months, Berkeley will loose a pub and gain a bistro.  The Daily Cal reported that Beckett’s will close in 5 weeks and, after some cosmetic changes, reopen as BEC Bistro sometime in November.  The concept is mostly organic California-Mediterranean, with a French and Italian emphasis.  The name of the bistro seems like quite the conversation starter: “BEC could stand for Bistro Entertainment Club, Bistro Ecological Cafe, Berkeley Environmental Cafe or Bear Entertainment Cafe. We will have a chalkboard where anyone could put puns for BEC,” said Jean-Yves Duperret, general manager for Les Copains d’Abord, the company that owns the bistro. “We were all hanging out, drunk … and we brainstormed and we became BEC.”
