All proceeds of Camino’s Japanese Cocktail (Osocalis brandy, lime, Small Hands orgeat, Angostura bitters – $10) will go to a relief fund set up by the Fukushima Perfectural government.  Impressively, as of Monday, they’ve raised $1170.  That’s a lot of cocktails.

Samin Nostrat is organizing a Bakesale for Japan, like last year’s Bakesale for Haiti.  She needs zillions of volunteers: “bakers, cooks, graphic designers, PR peeps, volunteers, and lots of customers.”  Email bakesaleforjapan@gmail.com if you want to help.  With the goal of breaking last year’s record of $23,000, there are multiple locations around the Bay Area, with 2 in the East Bay: Pizzaiolo in Oakland and Gioia in Berkeley.

Gordon Edgar literally doubled my knowledge of cheese when I was a guest at the last Cooks’ Books Club.  This month, The Pasta Shop is hosting the Queen of Chocolate herself, Alice Medrich, who will talk about her newest cookbook Chewy, Gooey, Crispy, Crunchy, Melt-in-Your Mouth Cookies.  I happen to own this masterpiece already (Thanks, Candace!), so I am super excited for the discussion and ingredient tastings.  The Pasta Shop will stay open late to offer discounts and Café Rouge will have cookies on the dessert menu.  The event is free, but reservations are requested.
