Rudy’s Can’t Fail Cafe opened about a month ago, and I was lucky enough to be invited to check it out.  The Cajun Big Bleu Burger was a winner, along with Your Own Private Eyedaho (hash browns, melted cheddar and a sunny side up egg).  But honestly, the breakfast dish wasn’t amazing until I doused it with Gringo Bandito hot sauce.  Don’t forget…Gringo Bandito.  The other good news is Rudy’s is open daily from 7am – 1am, with a full bar.

Opening soon

Cosecha (“harvest” in English) Café opened yesterday in Old Oakland.  Chef owner Dominica Rice has over 17 years of  experience at restaurants in Mexico City, New York and the Bay Area (Chez Panisse and Eccolo) and will serve delicious sounding dishes including pozole and tacos with house made tortillas.

I had the chance to peek at the new James and the Giant Cupcake storefront the other day.  Owner and self-taught baker (and former Zachary’s manager) Eurydice Manning plans to open at 10am on Monday.  Originally a delivery business, several flavors from the extensive menu will now be available at the storefront.  Regular size cupcakes will be $2.50 and minis $1.25.

The Noble Cafe is gearing up to open in the next 8 weeks or so.  Going beyond local produce and compostable cups, it will be the the first 0% carbon footprint in the country.  And everyone who lives in The Grand Apartments will also be able to take advantage of room service (!).  I’m just a little jealous.  The menu will include Blue Bottle coffee, fritattas, salads, sandwiches and Belgian waffles (the waffles also deserve an exclamation point)!  Anyway, the build out is scheduled to begin this week, and I honestly can’t wait until this place opens.  I’ll keep you posted.
