Joshu-ya Brasserie recently opened in the location of the former Joshu-ya Sushi Bar. Executive Chef/owner Jason Kwon has updated the menu with contemporary Japanese cuisineprepared with organic ingredients. I was lucky enough to be invited for dinner and I’m happy to report the sushi is top notch. I’m talking fresher than fresh.

I’ve been keeping track of this next project for a while, because it isn’t your typical restaurant opening. Rotating chefs operate in the space for just 2 weeks at a time. Sounds like a great opportunity for experienced and aspiring chefs to experiment in the kitchen, right? After several delays, Guest Chef opened on Friday, with Oakland firefighters cooking first. Proceeds from the four course dinners will be donated to charity.

After closing the restaurant almost a year ago, Amanda’s is back! Well, her Freshly Made Soda Mix is back. Real Raspberry, Fresh Squeezed Lemon-Lime, Spicy Ginger Ale and Seasonal Spiced Apple Cider are now available at Almare Gelato Italiano.
