Silvia McCollow works at Cosecha and interns at Chez Panisse and she also recently started Nido with her husband Cory.  It’s a food club, and every Tuesday they deliver a home cooked meal, prepared with local and sustainable ingredients for a suggested donation.  Last week, I was the eager recipient of sweet and spicy Kumquat-Jalapeno Organic Chicken (Mary’s), served with Butternut Squash Gratin and a Kale & Purple Radish Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette.  Everything was tasty, but that vinaigrette was so addictive, I almost drank the leftovers straight.  Instead, I saved it to make my own salad the next day.

Chocolatier Blue Parlor has a new pastry chef, Danyelle Forte, who started out on the savory side of fine dining.  She’s using that experience to create a new, innovative menu of ice cream, sundaes and milkshakes.  I was lucky enough to be invited to taste a few of her creations.  The Sweet Lime and Lemon Thyme (hey, that rhymes!) with lemongrass tapioca and macerated strawberries was so refreshing, the only thing missing was a beach.  But it was the Malt ice cream with brown butter pineapple, fritters and taragon that literally made me weak in the knees.  The flavor combination was so unexpected, it just blew me away.  Forte is also making her own Root Beer (sassafras, raisin, prunes, brown & granulated sugar) for the Root Beer Float.  Ordinarily, I’m not a fan, but this one was packed with serious flavor.  I can’t wait to see what this woman comes up with next.
