Nosy – Chocolate & Coffee

Based in Rockridge, Bittersweet Cafe opened another location in Downtown Oakland a couple weeks ago.  I tasted the Fudge Brownie ($3.50) made with Scharffenberger and Guittard chocolate.  This thing was intense and huge and really should not be eaten in one sitting (I couldn’t help myself).  With a thin crust and fudgy interior, this baby is for chocolate lovers only.  In addition to roasting chocolate and coffee beans on site, they have an extensive menu including various hot chocolates and milkshakes.  There are also several choices for breakfast (including housemade granola, yogurt and pastries) and lunch (quiche,  soup, salad, sandwiches on housemade bread).

Room 389 opened a year and a half ago as a bar/cocktail lounge.  Now it’s time to add “cafe” to their identity.   Instead of opening at 4pm for happy hour, the cafe opens in the mornings in order to provide the neighborhood with Bicycle and Roast Coffee, Five Mountains Tea and fresh pastries from Starter Bakery.  There’s window service for people in a hurry and a patio for folks with time to sit.
