Social – Indie Awards & Chocolate

I volunteered at the Oakland Indie Awards a couple years ago.  The event recognizes local artists and small businesses (including restaurants) in categories including Oakland Soul, Innovative Newbie, Greenie and Socially Responsible Rockstar.  As a volunteer, I thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks at the celebration – it was a good opportunity to taste a lot of different dishes in one place.  This year, food will be provided by Revolution Foods, Noble Café, Oakland Food Connection/ Mandela Coop Catering, s+s gastro grub, Scream Sorbet, Taco Grill, Bittersweet, Cook!, PieTisserie, Victory Burger, Nieves Cinco De Mayo and Angel Cupcakes.  Beer and wine from Trumer Pils, Linden Street Brewery and Urban Legend Winery will be offered at the cash bar.

The 16th annual Chocolate & Chalk Art Festival is this weekend.  Admission is free, but if you buy a packet of tickets (20 for $20), you can taste chocolates or enter the raffle.  Some of the food offered includes “picante habañero chocolate chunks gelato, Nutella crepes, savory chocolate ricotta pizza, Caribbean chocolate soup and chicken molé.” There will also be arts and crafts, live music, a children’s area with pony rides, inflatable bouncy houses, jugglers and face painters.  Sounds like fun.
