Sake is usually paired with sushi and sashimi, but I just learned that there are also some full bodied sakes that go quite nicely with bold flavors. If you want to find out more, check out the Sake & Soul Food event at Ozumo. You’ll have the opportunity to taste up to 40 sakes in the first hour before Ozumo’s kitchen starts sending out “Japanese-style soul food.” Here’s the menu:
Okonomiyaki with cabbage, bean sprouts, green onion topped with pickled ginger, Japanese mayo and a sweet soy
Grilled Salmon Onigiri with green onion
Spicy Chicken Kara-Age with Japanese-style fried chicken with spicy glaze
Tsukune Meatballs with ground pork, chicken, onion, garlic and ginger
Sauteed Greens with shungiku, spinach and pea sprouts in bacon dashi
Summer Veggie Kushi-yaki with cherry tomato, shishito pepper and eringi mushroom
Veggie Onigiri with yamagobo, carrot, shungiku and green onion.
