Tina Tamale’s family has owned La Borinqueña Mex-icatessen for almost 70 years and she runs a catering and mobile food cart business. When I asked her where she likes to eat, she immediately mentioned Shan Dong Mandarin Restaurant. I’d heard about it several times, but had never been there, so I was more than ready for my first visit. She ordered Shrimp Chow Mein with the mind blowing handmade noodles ($8.75), the savory dry fried green beans and the tender Shan Dong dumplings ($8.50). Everything was absolutely delicious. We talked about food, family and a new festival in Jack London Square.
