Portal opened about a week and a half ago and I stopped by the other day with my friend who lives in the neighborhood. First time restaurateur Warren Rector has put together a comfortable indoor space and a fabulous patio with a view of Lake Merritt. And, chef Eric Evert (Hudson, Jimmy Bean’s, Lalime’s) has created an interesting menu with dishes like Garbage Bread – grilled pizza dough, topped with fresher than fresh organic veggies, rolled up like a burrito, sliced and served with spicy marinara and tart pesto. With beer, wine and a newly unveiled brunch menu, let’s just say, if I lived in the neighborhood I would be a regular.
