Every Tuesday at Rumbo al Sur you can get 3 tacos for $9. But since there were four on the menu I had to try one of each: Crispy Ling Cod with mango slaw and chipotle crema, Carne Asada “Alambres” with peppers, onions, bacon and queso oaxaca, Puerco en Adobo with salsa verde and crema and Grilled Corn “Esquites” with cotija and romaine. I devoured all of them, but the fish taco was my favorite – crisp, juicy, spicy and slightly sweet. You’re also pretty much required to order a Rumbo Margarita ($6 glass/$30 pitcher, Zapopan Blanco Tequila, Cointreau, Fresh Lime and Agave Syrup), especially since they’re so refreshing and heavily discounted. And, trust me, it’s always a good idea to save room for dessert. Elaine Osuna, the pastry chef, is kind of a genius. During my last visit, I tasted her Margarita Pie ($9, Cointreau cream, pretzel crust, & tequila-lime caramel) and Coconut Flan Torte ($9, Coconut Flan atop Coconut Cake with Guava Caramel). The way she creates imaginative desserts, all with complementary flavors and textures – you really can’t go wrong.
