Frugal – A New Way to Save

Marqeta is an Emeryville-based company that is offering a new way to save money.  Here’s how it works: When you put $40 on your card and go to a restaurant (or market, or dry cleaner, etc) you get an extra 25% to spend.  They sent me a card to try out, so I took a friend to Make Westing, since we’d never eaten there before.  The Pork Belly Sandwich ($12, with pickled daikon, kimchi and kale) was substantial and full of complementary flavors.  Juicy, sour, crunchy, meaty – it’s the kind of sandwich that made me say “Whoa!” after the first bite.  We also enjoyed the Pickled Beets ($6, with whole grain mustard, pickled onions and bread), and the Habanero Popcorn ($3, with lime and cotija) was perfect to snack on with cocktails.  We had a really great meal at Make Westing and you can too. I have three cards to give away – all you have to do is keep an eye out for the post about the Marqeta card on my Facebook page and make a comment.
