Nosy – Italian Pastries

Borgo Italia opened about 2 months ago in the former B Restaurant space and I met my new food blogger friends, Ben of Focus Snap Eat and Sandy of Foodhoe’s Foraging, for dinner last week.  As soon as Sandy saw the Torta Fritta Emiliana (puffed fried bread with Salumi $12) on the menu, we had to order the antipasto.  The lightly salted bread looked like little pillows and paired well with the cured meat.  We decided on a few other dishes and ended up sharing everything.  While the Pizza Margherita (tomato, mozzarella, basil $13) and Zucchini Trifolate (sauteed zucchini with parsley and garlic, $7) were decent, but not especially memorable, the Tegliatelle al Ragu (handmade egg pasta with meat sauce, $15) was hearty and the tart Peperonata (sauteed bell peppers, onions, tomato, $7) was a great compliment to the other dishes.  But it was the Ciambella (doughnut-shaped puff pastry, $5) that stole the show.  The Italian pastry was crispy, creamy and surprisingly light.  If you live in the neighborhood, you should definitely check it out.  If you don’t, it’s worth a special trip for the pastries.
