Did you know that Cinco de Mayo isn’t Mexican Independence Day? It marks the Battle of Puebla when an outnumbered Mexican army defeated invading French forces. Victory against all odds – sounds like a good reason to celebrate! Tina Tamale and La Borinqueña Mex-icatessen are hosting a Cinco de Mayo party with with a live performance by youth Mariachi Nueva Luz. Admission includes chips & salsa, your choice of entree:

Remember when I tagged along on a Dishcrawl last month? We had a great time eating our way through four restaurants and getting to know each other along the way. After a night in Alameda a few weeks ago, it’s coming back to the Temsescal, with four new restaurants. Now, the stops are technically top secret, but the organizer gave me a hint: “The badass Oakland version of Cheeseboard.” Any guesses?
