Hive Cafe will be the first independent cafe to serve Oakland-based Highwire Coffee and Tea, according to partners Bree Dezort and Cali Kamala.  They plan to officially open the cafe on Wednesday, 5/29, with coffee and pastries from Starter Bakery, and then add housemade sandwiches and organic salads after a week or so.  They live in the neighborhood and always found themselves leaving to get quality coffee…until now. The menu is still being finalized but so far ideas include Caprese Salad, Roast Beef Sandwich with Sage Aioli, and Peanut Butter & Honey Sandwich with Bananas. Considering the name of the cafe, it seems appropriate that Marshall’s Honey will be featured in several menu items.  When I stopped by yesterday, the space was bright and welcoming and I wasn’t surprised to learn that that the owners took their time and redid the entire space themselves.  I was also excited to hear that they are planning to get a Granita machine, which is something I’ve never seen before.  It sounds like a high-end Slurpee Machine and they have plans to offer Espresso and Coconut-Honey-Lavender.  Sounds perfect for summer, right?
