Five Ideas for the 4th of July

It’s time to start thinking about the 4th of July.  Do you have plans?  I did a little research to find out what’s going on, just in case you need some ideas:

Oakland

Jack London Square’s 4th of July Festival of Family Funwill have all kinds of activities including jugglers, magicians, face painters and a petting zoo.  Food will be served at area restaurants and by food vendors too.

Thurs, 7/4, 11am – 4pm

Brotzeit Lokal, which just opened last month, is celebrating with Brats, Bretzels and $4 Beer specials on the biergarten.  And the waterfront location would be a really good spot to watch the fireworks.

Bocanova is celebrating with Rick’s July Supper Club: “This month, Chef Rick’s menu will feature “asado” or grilled dishes inspired by his recent trip to South America, including assorted sausages, marinated sweet breads and corn on the cob with a lime butter, while tasting wines from Vine Connection.”  It’s a five-course dinner served family-style.  Bocanova is also on the waterfront, so you can just watch the fireworks on the patio after dinner.

Berkeley

The big family-friendly party at the Berkeley Marina will have an Adventure Playground, face painting, carnival rides, pony rides, and live entertainment (including Afro Cuban Drumming, Capoeira and a one man band).  There will also be plenty of food including Corn Dogs, Lumpia and Funnel Cakes.  The night ends with fireworks over the water.

Thurs, 7/4, noon – 10pm

Free admission

The cooks at Zut are grilling on the back patio.  Along with the regular menus, they’ll offer Baby Back Ribs with Homemade BBQ Sauce, Niman Ranch Hot Dogs with Sauerkraut, Tomatoes and Pickles, served with Homemade Potato Chips, Coleslaw and Watermelon.  So you can eat, then walk down to watch the fireworks.
