Named after a winemaking term, The Punchdown opened about three years ago. The bad news is Lisa Costa and D.C. Looney are getting ready to close the wine bar in a couple weeks. They posted an explanation on Facebook: “To give you a little insight on the situation, we basically took over a business that couldn’t make it and had closed. With a lot of hard work and all of your support, we turned it around and made it a success. We have posted profits since we opened (sometimes while working for wine!) and built up a saleable business (as it turns out, to our detriment). The owners of the wine bar have sold it and we could not exercise our right of first refusal, the buyer’s offer was simply too high.” The good news is there are plans to take The Punchdown to a new location, and since they can’t bring the wine along, they’re offering a 10% discount. The wine bar will be open every day until it closes on 11/15. After that, they’re hoping to set up some East Bay pop-ups, so stay tuned…

I’m sorry to hear this. Thanks for letting us know.
I know… I wish they could stay at that location, but I’m excited to find out where they’ll end up!
