Ñora Spanish Cuisine has been popping up at La Peña Cultural Center whenever they do Spanish events. I was invited to a dinner and flamenco show last month, and Cine, Cena y Cerveza is this weekend. Volver is the first Spanish film in the series, so you’ll be able to have dinner and drinks before the movie starts at 10pm. I tasted everything on the last menu and it looks like some of the same dishes will reappear this month. My favorite was the Butternut Squash Soup (olorosso sherry, roasted garlic, toasted pumpkin seeds, $7). At first glance, it seemed so simple, but the soup was actually quite complex and perfectly balanced. Here’s the rest of the sample menu:
Ensalada/Wild arugula, persimmons, toasted almonds, pomegranate vinaigrette, $8
Piquillo/Piquillo peppers stuffed with foggy morning cheese, caramelized onions, crispy chorizo, $8
Cangrejo/Dungeness crab cake, piquillo peppers, saffron aioli, organic greens, $11
Paella/Saffron rice with chicken, chorizo, calamari, shrimp, peas, $11
Quesos/Mahón curado, Idiazábal, Truffle Tremor, membrillo, $12
Churros/Churros with warm chocolate milk, $5
Helado/Goat cheese and basil ice cream, $7
3105 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley
Fri, 11/22, 5:30 – 9pm
