I went to Suya African Caribbean Grill when it first opened in about a year and a half ago across from UC Berkeley. Named after a spice rub popular in West Africa (a combination of ground nuts, cayenne, ginger, paprika and onion powder), the second location opened in Oakland last week near Umami Burger.  The menus are pretty much the same, but the new place also has Wraps (Beef, Chicken or Veggie, $6.95). The owner suggested beef, which was spicy, tender and served in a pita with aioli, lettuce and tomatoes. The wrap was a good size, but the slightly sweet Grilled Plantain ($2.50) seemed kind of small for the price. If you have a taste for plantains, the Skewers ($8.75 – 10.50), which come with 2 sides, seem like the better deal.
