I’m going to see my girl Ledisi perform at The Fox this weekend so I’ve been thinking about places to eat in the area. There are several restaurants within a couple blocks of the theater so eating before and after a show is pretty convenient. I wanted to share so you’ll be ready the next time you go to a show.
If you’re short on time and cash:
Xolo Taqueria serves Mexican food in a casual setting. There are tacos, burritos and “especiales” like a Bacon Wrapped Danger Dog.
You can get sandwiches and burgers before the show at Rudy’s Can’t Fail Cafe. Or you can go afterwards for a late night breakfast.
Make Westing is more of a bar, but they also serve interesting sandwiches like Duck Confit with Pickled Grape Jam, Black Pepper-Allspice Aioli, Arugula and Red Onion.
If you have more time and a bigger budget:
Flora serves well-executed classics like Grilled Flat Iron Steak and Caramel Pudding for dessert.
Duende specializes in regional Spanish cuisine, you can expect interesting tapas and paella.

West of the Fox Theater also holds some options with Belly (casual early dinner) or Hopscotch (fancier dinner)
So true. Thanks, Ben!
Camber is delicious Asian cuisine with dishes from multiple regions. Nice tea leaf salad and bouncing beef.
Ohhh, I haven’t been yet. Thanks for the tip!
I haven’t been to Rudy’s Oakland location, is it just as good as the one in Emeryville?
