Takeout in Oakland: The Kebabery

The Kebabery is a neighborhood kebab shop opened by the team at Camino. They’ve been serving organic vegetables, meat, grains, dairy, spices and wine for about a year, but it took me a while to check it out.

It wasn’t for lack of trying. I’ve found myself standing on the sidewalk in front of the locked door more than once, forgetting that they’re closed on Tuesdays. And I still have never eaten in the restaurant, but I ordered delivery one day and it was so impressive I had to tell you about it.

Sorry about these mediocre pictures, by the way. I was hongry (not hungry) and didn’t have enough patience to get a better shot.

Anyway, I ordered the Chicken Kebab Plate ($16) and thoroughly enjoyed the grilled homemade flatbread, spiced carrots and homemade pickles.

The chicken was marinated in turmeric, fenugreek, fennel and ginger and it was oh so tender and flavorful.  I also loved the tangy pickles and fresh herbs and eating everything together.

The Chicken Kebab Plate traveled well and was very delicious when it arrived. I would love to see what it’s like to eat at The Kebabery, but this is what I would order next time I get delivery.
