La Casita: Food for the Soul

I first fell in love with the soul-satisfying food at Taqueria Campos a couple years ago. Since then, the owner sold the business to her nephew, Nolberto Martinez Jr., who changed the name to La Casita and added some fresh energy, but kept most of the family recipes on the menu.

Watch the video from my last visit.

I tried the Goat Birria for the first time and it was exceptional, but I’m a pork lover so the Pozole was my favorite. It was tender, hearty and flavorful and tasted like it was made with love. Toppings were served on the side, so you could customize the bowl to your taste. I like my pozole crunchy, spicy and sour so I added cabbage, homemade hot sauce and lots of lime juice.

La Casita is an Oakland treasure. They serve comfort food at its finest, so it’s pretty much impossible to have a bad day after eating this pozole.
