Nosy – Back in Business

Sketch Ice Cream was on 4th Street in Berkeley for about five years and closed when owners Eric Shelton and Ruthie Planas-Shelton had a baby. Three years later, the husband and wife team reopened on a more residential section of the same street.   I was more than ready for their opening day after reading so much about the soft serve.  There were four flavors and I ordered them all: Yogurt, Nectarine, Vanilla Bean and Caramel.  The yogurt/nectarine swirl was light and refreshing while the vanilla/caramel swirl was rich and smooth.  It was the best of both worlds. They also had miniature cakes and cookies, but I didn’t want to go overboard on my first visit.  Belgian Waffles with fruit and yogurt are available in the mornings and Filipino style empanadas, inspired by Ruthie’s heritage, are available in the afternoons.
