Oakland Tribune’s January 1st Night Owl was a great summary of all of the restaurants and bars that opened and closed in 2009. There were a couple bars I hadn’t heard about until reading the column. Monaghan’s, a San Francisco Irish pub, just opened a second location in the East Bay. This is good news for people that live in the neighborhood, because the Irish pub DOUBLED the nightlife options in Montclair.

I also had no idea Oakland is now the center of LGBT night life of the East Bay. Where have I been? Remember the @17th Club in downtown Oakland? Bench and Bar moved into that space and the original location is now known as Club 21.
