How to start a Vegetable Garden, Beehive or Chicken Coop in Oakland

Yolanda Burrell and Birgitt Evans opened Pollinate Farm & Garden last year, but this was my first visit.  It’s a cute store with (almost) everything you need to start a vegetable garden, backyard beehive or chicken coop.  Their 1st Anniversary Celebration will be on Saturday, 5/31, from 10am – 5pm, and there will be refreshments, activities and classes. Speaking of classes, they regularly offer classes to get you started in the right direction.  I’m kind of a beginning gardener, so even after a few successful summer gardens, I still don’t know how to transition into the fall.  I hope they schedule a class for people like me.  Anyway, the other day I picked up tons of starts (tomatoes, peppers, herbs, etc.) and potting soil.  Would you like to see my container garden after I get it started?

  1. Oh man! This sounds awesome. When we have a house, we’d love all three: garden, beehive, and chickens! Thanks for sharing – would love to see your garden when you start it.
