Lost & Found Beer Garden: Now Open in Oakland

The owners of The Layover opened Lost & Found a couple months ago.  I met Leigh of Flavorhood there last week and was surprised to see it so busy on a Thursday evening.  We sat at the bar and, unfortunately, one of the bartenders wasn’t very helpful.  Leigh already had a tab open when we decided to order some food (full menu available 11:30am – 2:30pm and 5 – 10pm), so why did the bartender make her go stand in the long line at the cashier instead of just taking her order?  I’m not sure, but we were happy when another bartender (Rob) said he could take our order.

The short menu had several unique dishes, which weren’t always successful.  We decided on the addictive Thai Curry Popcorn ($2), the salty and oily Instant Ramen Funnel Cakes ($4) and the Kimchi Deviled Eggs ($5), which were actually better the next day. After I let the leftovers sit on the counter for about 20 minutes, the flavors were a lot brighter closer to room temperature.

The fennel and garlic spiced chicken in the Chiketta Sandwich ($10) was tender but could have used a bit more flavor.  We agreed that the juicy, crunchy Bahía de Cochinos (Soy Miso Braised Pork, Pickled Giardiniera, Pickled Mustard, Sambal Aioli, $12) was a lot more flavorful.  That sandwich and the popcorn were our favorite dishes of the night.

The beer list was extensive and featured lots of local breweries.  I ordered the crisp and refreshing Two Rivers Granny Smith Hard Cider ($7) from Sacramento.  There are tables, umbrellas, games and vegetables growing in the outdoor area, so it looked like a great place to spend a sunny afternoon.
