Eccolo closed in August, but former chef-owner Chris Lee and former sous chef Samin Nosrat are still very busy and working together. The duo started a Pop-Up General Store a few weeks ago, selling prepared foods and other goodies (Soul Food Farm chickens, pozole verde, Szechuan Pickles, handmade English muffins, pizza dough, organic Buttery Pastry Dough) from their talented chef friends. This week will be the St. Patrick’s edition, with corned beef brisket, coffee stout brownies and more. You can fill out the order form online, or just show up with cash/check. E-mail popupgeneralstore@gmail.com to get on the mailing list or catch up with them on Facebook. On top of the Pop-Up General Store, Samin is also teaching cooking classes – check out the Social section for more info.

Canvas Underground recently hosted a dinner in a West Oakland Victorian, and they’re looking for other cool spaces for upcoming events. The host/ess gets a free meal for opening up their art gallery, parking lot or living room for the night.
By the way, tickets for their April event are now on sale: a viewing party of their appearance on Fine Living Network. Organizer extraordinaire Vera Devera says there will be two screens, a Slow Jams tasting and a live music performance. This is Chef Peter Jackson’s menu:
Grilled local asparagus with agrumato and shaved Bellwether Farm pepato cheese
County Line Farm chicory salad with crispy homemade pancetta, fava beans and aged balsamic
Coca – Spanish style flat bread with green garlic, grilled Meyer lemon and manchego cheese
Braised organic chicken with citrus, saffron and olives
Smoked paprika and roasted mushroom rice
Cupcakes, brownies, cookies
