I should have known that Dublin would have a big St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. The 2 day festival includes commercial vendors, multiple stages of “authentic Irish entertainment,” carnival rides and an international food court. But that’s not all. The weekend is packed with a Firefighter’s Pancake Breakfast (green pancakes?), Shamrock 5K Fun Run and Walk and even a Green & White Gala. Whew!

Regeneration Church is screening Fresh the Movie, a food documentary. Local food vendors, CSAs, and community gardens will also be there to nourish your mind and stomach. Proceeds will help low income families buy CSA boxes.

Guiness, a bagpiper, limerick and best kilt contests will all be part of Spenger’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration. And they’ll also have a special menu: “brisket of corned beef with horseradish cream sauce, steamed cabbage and boiled potatoes or a classic Irish stew.” A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Alex Koefoed of Soul Food Farm and Samin Nosrat, a professional cook and writer, are teaming up to teach a Home Ec class – it’s basically Chicken 101. First, students will learn how Alex raises chickens on organic pastures for some of the most well known restaurants in the Bay Area. Next, Samin will demonstrate how to butcher a chicken. Students will then tackle their own birds. Everyone will go home with a Soul Food Farm chicken, butchery/recipe guide and “you’ll leave empowered and encouraged to start buying whole chickens at the market, knowing how to economically and deliciously use every part of the bird!”
