7 reasons you should go to Buma’s Pizzeria

Buma’s Pizzeria recently opened in the former Marrow space and in my humble opinion, they serve some of the best pizza around. I know we just came up with the Top Ten Pizza Places in Oakland, but maybe Buma’s also deserves a spot on the list.  Here are 7 reasons you should go check it out:

1.  Jon Kosorek, the chef-owner behind Jon’s Street Eats and Marrow, opened Buma’s Pizzeria in Oakland a few months ago.  I loved the Reuben and Patty Melt (and pretty much all of the other dishes), so I was excited to taste his pizza.

2.  Buma’s is named after a close friend and investor in both businesses, who recently passed away from brain cancer.  They’ll donate a portion of the proceeds to bring awareness to the issue and support research.

3.  They serve New York-style pizzas (whole pies and slices for lunch), plus salads and wings (Plain, Hot, or Curry Teriyaki).

4.  You can get it delivered!

5.  The crust had an intoxicating sourdough aroma and flavor.  Jon made the dough a few days in advance, so it had time to rest and ferment.  And the pies were baked long enough in a hot oven, so the slice wasn’t droopy when I picked it up.

6.  The “Special White Sauce” (with Mozzarella, Ricotta, Arugula, Pickled Onion and Chili Flake) was light and refreshing, and finished with flakes of Maldon sea salt.  There was restraint and it was beautiful.

7.  The Super Combo (with Roasted Mushrooms, Bell Pepper, Onion, Roasted Garlic, Pepperoncini Plus Pepperoni and Sausage) was incredibly flavorful, with the pickled pepper brightening up the other veggies and all that meat. This slice was ooey, gooey and over the top – without being overwhelming.

Everything was impeccably seasoned, so these jars must be for decoration.  Go check it out and let me know what you think!
