We had another epic East Bay Dishing meal at Vientian Cafe the other day. I heard a lot of good things about the food and some people say it’s the best Lao restaurant in Oakland, so you know we had to check it out.
We had a great conversation and the food was all pretty delicious. We ordered lots of dishes including Roast Duck Salad, Laotian Sausage, Beef Larb, Lao-style Papaya Salad, Pla Ga Plow (Basil Basa Filet Fish) and Nam Kao (Deep fried rice mixed with ground pork, coconut and a special sauce).
Everyone was loving the Nam Kao and Dave said he could eat it ALL DAY LONG.
While the food was delicious, it’s comparable to Champa Garden (in my humble opinion). They’re both small restaurants in Oakland neighborhoods, but Champa Garden can get really crowded. So if you want Lao cuisine but don’t feel like waiting for a table, definitely go to Vientian Cafe.
