Did you hear about Parada? It’s a Peruvian restaurant that just opened in Walnut Creek. Chef-owner Carlos Altamirano has two restaurants in San Francisco, one in Half Moon Bay and the Sanguchon Peruvian food trucks, but this is his first restaurant in the East Bay. I went to the soft opening party a couple weeks ago with my friend Ben from Focus Snap Eat. It was so convenient (only a block from the Pleasant Hill BART station) and the food was so fresh and flavorful, I had to tell you about it.
We started with cocktails, of course. The Pisco Sour was a little too sour for me, but the Pisco Punch (Pisco Porton, pineapple juice, simple syrup, fresh squeezed lemon juice) was super refreshing.
We tasted through most of the menu, and here are my favorites:
If I’m remembering correctly, this Pork Belly was so tender it melted in my mouth. But I can’t find it on the menu, so be sure to ask about it if you go.
Crispy, cheesy, and downright addictive, tthis dish was also pretty amazing:
We also tried two ceviches, but this was our favorite.
The Cebiche Chino-Peruano (Ahi tuna, rocoto-sweet chili leche de tigre, guarnacion & crispy wonton) was seasoned perfectly and complemented by the yucca chip.
The Costillitas (Grilled pork spareribs with house made Gochuang-Inca Kola BBQ sauce & cole slaw) were so tender they were falling off the bone…and that sauce!
Ohh and I kept hearing amazing things about the Pollo a la Brasa, so I can’t wait to go back and try the chef’s version.
On our way out, they were also giving away bags of Alfajores (dulce de leche-filled shortbread cookies with powdered sugar), which turned out to be impressively tender. You should definitely save room for dessert.
