Seafood & Chicken, Coffee and a new California Pub

Just opened

Emma’s, an Oakland institution serving fish and chicken, reopened last week as BFC Seafood and Chicken.  They serve prawns, oysters, fish and chicken in sandwiches and full orders and promise to be as good as Emma’s.  When I asked about the name of the restaurant, the response made me smile: BFC = Brothers, Fish and Chicken.  Sounds like a winning combo to me!

farleys_logoSan Francisco-based Farley’s Coffee opened a second shop in Uptown Oakland last summer.  This week, they opened their third location on 65th in Emeryville.   Right now, they’re only open Mon – Fri from 7:30 – 2:30 pm, but have plans to soon add extended and weekend hours.

Buddy’s Bites and Brews opened this week in the location of the Chinese restaurant formerly known as Sampan Kitchen.  Buddy’s is a California pub, where “the drinks are frosty, your friends are waiting, and the summer never ends…”

Awaken Cafe just celebrated their 2nd anniversary last month, and they’re preparing for a transition.  They sublet from a landlord, who is being evicted by the owners of the building.  Since their attempts to negotiate directly with the owner were unsuccessful, Awaken is now looking for a new, larger space.  They plan to remain open in the current location through the summer and offer an expanded menu, along with organic beer and wine when they move.

I just saw this status update on Meridian International Sports Cafe‘s Facebook page from Monday: “Closing for repairs for the Summer… All you can eat buffet for $5… and for another $5 all you can drink beer…. I suggest you tell your friends to get here tonight at 7pm.”  There was no mention on their website, and yesterday, when I called to get more information, there was no answer and the voice mailbox was full.  I’m just mad I wasn’t there on Monday night.
