My old favorite taco truck was in Oakland. I’m not going to say the name, but it’s bright orange.
Yeah, you know the one…
I think the business expanded and they changed some of their recipes because it’s just not as good as it used to be. The carnitas on my last 3 visits were bland and kind of tough – it was heartbreaking!
So I was really happy when a fellow food lover reminded me about El Autlense:
@eastbaydish They still don’t beat El Autlense, my current fave, but they’re still freakin’ tasty!

El Autlense is usually parked outside the Hotsy Totsy in Albany and it’s pretty much a mandatory stop whenever I’m in the area.
The Carnitas were tender and flavorful with some of those crispy bits that I love. If you go, bring cash and be prepared for a line, but in my experience, it’s always been worth the wait.
Now I need to find some good carnitas in Oakland again, so let me know if you have any suggestions!
