Just Opened
I noticed in Diablo Dish that Home of Chicken and Waffles opened a second location in Walnut Creek last week. Just like the Oakland restaurant, it will be open til 4am on Friday and Saturday, and owner Derreck Johnson is working on a full bar and “eying the vacant space next door to house a bar and private dining room.” Check out Foodhoe’s Foraging for more on the food.

After 12 years in Elmwood, Far Leaves Tea closed and reopened a couple weeks ago in West Berkeley. Hand-processed tea is still available, and they’re also serving Bento boxes for lunch. The shop is open Tues – Sat, 11 – 7pm.

Alameda, I have some news for you: 1400 Bar & Grill is ready to begin “waking up Webster Street.” It will be open for lunch, dinner and late night eats during the week and will add brunch on the weekends (Mon – Thurs, 3pm – midnight, Fri, 3pm – 2am, Sat, 8am – 2am, Sun, 8am – midnight). Proprietors Mark Cooper and Yanni Placourakis have scheduled the soft-opening for friends and family for Sat, 8/6 and it will be open to the public on Mon, 8/8.

According to Inside Scoop, Local Cafe is almost ready to open next door to Adesso. Chef Colin Etezadi (formerly of Boot & Shoe Service and Camino) will start with breakfast and lunch service on 8/23 and dinner will begin sometime in September.

Inside Scoop also has news about the restaurant formerly known as Caffe Verbena. Faz Poursohi, who already has 2 restaurants in the East Bay (Danville and Pleasanton), will transform it into Faz Oakland and plans to serve his signature wood-fired Mediterranean cuisine. To match with the address (I guess), the opening is scheduled for 11/11/11.
